Vince,was born on 8/25/09 his newborn screening came back positive for CF..he then went and had a sweat test to measure for elevated chloride in his sweat glands..this was positive giving vince the CF diagnosis...he was admitted less than a week later with pnemonia..he has been admitted a total of 3 times for this,missing his 1st easter and a baby contest! CF causes thick,sticky mucous allowing bacteria to grow in the lungs and making the child sick.it also means the mucous does not allow them to absorb fat..vince is currently on 2 inhalers,1 neb treatment,a vest 2x daily to break up mucous,enzymes to absorb fat 2-3 per feeding..vince is very happy and smart..but because of all the forcing of meds he does not eat anything other than baby sweet potatoes and cherrios..he is on a special high calorie formula to prevent the need of a feeding tube!
